I took a break from working on scenery to finish a couple projects that have been languishing in the workshop. These are both old O scale kits, the ND is an old Ambroid kit I built and the N5 is a Walthers I bought already nicely built up off eBay. They both have two rail wheelsets and Kadees, and track well at all speeds through my Atlas track and switches.

I thought the ND would be easy to build but it was tougher than it looked. I don't know why really, although the handrail assemblies took some time to cobble together. It hung around waiting on decals (ended up using Greg Komar dry transfers thanks to a tip from the 2 Rail forum - thanks guys!) and ladders (obtained from PSC) since the originals were crumbled into dust in the box.

The N5 showed up with mashed antennas and the seller sent me the parts to fix it up. The original owner/assembler did a nice job putting it together. I repaired the antennas and did a little more weathering on it.

I always thought it would be nice if someone did these in ABS for under $100 or so, but with all these old kits out there, it's more fun and rewarding to hunt them down and try building them yourself.
