PS-2 DEAD BATTERY

Not really.  It may cause issues that would result in lost sound, is that what you're experiencing?

I lost the name of the file,MCDONALDS 414 it was changed to RK F3. I changed it back to MCDONALDS 414.

Nothing to do with the battery, that's because you don't have a permanent name in the engine.  You have to use the dealer loader to permanently change the name in a PS2/3 chipset.

But if the battery is dead, any changes made through DCS will not be recorded, so yes it can cause issues, but that is NOT loosing the Sound File.  The sound file is permanent until you change it.  The Permanent name comes from loading the serial data with a dealer loader.  G

The engine had a permanent name mcdonald 414, but it went away with the dead battery. I thought that only took place with PS 1 engines?

It did NOT have a permanent name if it went away.  The permanent name will not go away.  Have it programmed by a tech with the dealer loader and the name will be permanent.

I bought the engine used so I guess I don't really know if the file was put in at the factory or not.

Given that the name doesn't stick, I can tell you with pretty much 100% certainty that the board is a replacement.  My SWAG is that it was from a Railking F3 locomotive.

I said that it seems like a year ago, and very early in the various post on this engine.  Seems like we just go roundy  round on this subject.  As John said, Permanent name does not just go away.  Custom names do when a board swap occurs and the person does not load the serial data with a dealer loader.
