PS1 Bottom Board Component Failures | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

Can anyone help identify the most common component failures on MTH PS1 bottom boards? I have a handful that need repaired and would appreciate any help steering me in the right direction. Thanks much.

I would think the 2 transistors that fire the relays. 2N5087

My own personal experience, another common failure is the LM337 regulator

I've seen others post pictures of the various diodes failing

Last, this board had a serious fail and likely unable to be cost effectively repaired. Basically the board and a few components burned traces around the large insulated FET. The charred black vaporized that section of the board.

BTW, MTH parts still had replacement boards last I checked. I'm all for repairing the simple things like failed transistors and voltage regulators, maybe a diode or capacitor, but if you had board damage like the photo, then a new board is just the way to go.
