I just purchased a PS2 capable MTH Rail King Engine (CSX F40PH) as I am getting ready to upgrade my control system to DCS. Until I do (in a few weeks) while I run it with my conventional Lionel KW transformer, should I expect the directional control to work like a conventional E unit? I got it to eventually move forward, but not sure what I did to achieve it. Seemed to be a lag. There is cab chatter, and something about very low fuel level. Is that a roundabout way of the unit telling me the battery needs charging?

Yes, although you need a full charged battery to get it out of neutral.

LOL!

No, it's just cab chatter that kicks in when the engine sits idle for a period of time.

Set voltage about 10-12 V and use the direction but which interrupts power to change direction.  Setting throttle to 0 is not always 0 volts with Lionel transformers.  Depending on year this engine may need a new battery.  If it does not play shutdown cycle completely when you turn track power off, time to charge or replace battery depending on age of battery.  G
