I'm going to be starting a PS3 swap on a project using a PS3 steam upgrade kit. The locomotive in question is not MTH but will have a Pittman motor. The tach reader is usually mounted where the tach reader wiring is toward the motor. However, in this situation, there is not enough room to do so. I want to mount the tach reader in the opposite direction, with just the reader over the flywheel and the wires facing away from the motor. I'm under the assumption that this will work fine. From what I can gather the tach reader is just counting stripes and does not care which way the flywheel is turning (i.e. if mounted opposite of the way MTH shows in the kit the tach reader would see the flywheel turn in the opposite direction when going forward), I'd just like to confirm. I've attached (crude) images of how the MTH instructions want the tach reader mounted and what I want to do, to clarify what I'm asking.

I did just that when I got my Chessie Steam Special back from having the Pullmor motor replaced with a Pittman. Sorry, I don't have a picture showing the install of GRJ's Chuff-Generator. But the metal tab extending over the flywheel was shortened just a bit and this is where I mounted the CG. So, yes it can be done.

Cool. I believe that the chuff generator uses the same basic technology as the PS3 tach system so the PS3 tach *should* work mounted the opposite way. Hopefully someone else can confirm. If not I'm going to be the first person to mount the PS3 tach backwards .
