Hello all;

Been working on a new to me(seller stated this as new) PS3 diesel engine item number 20-20367-1

First issue when loaded into my remote, it showed a UP DD40AX engine (not a big deal... but clearly was not new) Also, the board itself (little sticker) shows as a WM GP9...and it is not that. All other functions/features appear to operate as designed.

When selected speed step 1 SMPH, engine takes off, I would say about 20 SMPH...not full speed. Adjusting the acc rate from 4 SMPH to 2 SMPH, it still goes to 20 SMPH but takes longer to get there.

What I have done:

Reseat the tach reader and checked for cold/poor soldering joints, to no change

Perform both a factory and feature reset to no change

Moved the PS3 board into a known good chassis and it performed the same way

Only thing I have not done was redownload chain/sound files, as I have a chromebook and it does not have windows

Any further thoughts or is something on the PS3 board bad? Thanks!

Hard to say, my first step would obviously be to load the chain and sound files.  That being said, this does kinda' sound like a failure on the board.  As you surmise, it's clearly NOT a new locomotive with that board in it, and it sounds like the board has a problem.

Check the wiring from the tach reader all the way to the 40-pin connector on the PS/3 board and make sure all the wires get there.  If that is good, check R358 and see if it measures 10K.  If not, that's a problem, and is one component on the PS/3 board that is identified as causing a runaway.
