OK, if you have longer trains, you do not have as many crews or locomotives to use.

I can see that with unit and stack trains.

But there is a lot of loose car railroading here in Houston.

To me, the time, hence money to make and brake up these trains would eat up any cost savings.  And can the present track layouts handle thse long trains?  In case of UP, can the yard infrastructure, including Englewood, handle the load?  Are sidings long enough?

If I am missing something, please chime in.
