I have been using two ZW-L's to operate my layout for three years. Despite my best efforts I manage to activate their circuit protection at least once every time I use the layout by running an engine into an open turnout (two rail layout.) The output protection of a ZW-L is equivalent to the PSX1-AC. The only reason to include them with a ZW-L would be to set the protection level at less than 10A. I have a number of the PSX boards on my layout, mostly the auto reverser boards, they are all excellent products.

I stand corrected - a closer look at my wiring configuration revealed that the PSX units were placed between the transformer throttles and the TIU channels. This was done to avoid the DCS signal degradation (which matches experience).

The trip point is set for 8 amps, so everything is perhaps on the more sensitive side.

Given this discussion, is a tvs recommended between the track and TIU to further safeguard the TIU?

BTW; The video posted earlier by Superwarp1 provides an excellent demonstration of the PSX capabilities.

The PSC1-AC is not a good choice for a conventional environment.

The PSX1-AC is also really only for command use, it won't pass low voltages.  From the TIPS section of their site.

The onboard processors derive their power from the input power to the PSX units. To prevent any unpredictable
operation the input voltage should be kept above 10 volts.



A good alternative for any conventional or command environment are the AirPax Instant Breakers.
