I recently purchased a Jersey Central Madison car passenger set that was in the late 80's or early 90's  It is a 4 car set made in the USA . Having but 2 CNJ engines, I took an old MPC GP-9 Jersey central engine from the shelves to pull the consist.  Its the only one that seemed prototypical. With only one motor I wondered if this little engine would pull the four heavy passenger cars. Hooked it up applied the power and found that this little single engine Geep can pull that consist at 10-11V with ease. I don't want to make comparisons to the more modern DC motored engines but that CNJ Pullmore GP-9 seems very powerful for what it is. I am just wondering if a light single can motor engine would provide the same or better performance?

Traction is usually the limiting factor with these diesels, due to their comparatively light weight. Otherwise, they are the mechanical equivalent of most postwar better diesels save for the sometimes problems with the plastic/nylon gears. They are certainly better runners than the 600 & 200 series locos that the 8030-100(or 8021-100) power truck replaces & improves on.
