Hello, Electrical forum-

I am putting together an Atlas 3-rail layout. I like Atlas switches because they are affordable and dependable but I really don't care for the old style slide switch controller. This is not by any means a deal breaker, but it would be nice to have something like the since recalled deluxe switch controller. Does the forum have any suggestions for a nice push button/LED switch controller that is compatible with Atlas 3-rail switch and switch machine? I am eventually going to go LCS for my layout control, but I still want the option of push-button because sometimes it's nice to just push a button vs a touch screen.

Thanks!

I'm not a fan of the atlas switch control button either. Atlas did release a "CTC" styled switch controller which had a lever and a push button that was actually pretty nice. I can't recall the part number. The big thing to watch out for is a switch that sticks because Atlas (and MTH ScaleTrax) use a solenoid which requires a momentary push of the switch or the coils will overheat and melt the switch machine. Pretty much any type of momentary switch will work, but they'd have to be used in pairs (one for open/one for close) with the Atlas switch motors. Atlas may still have the switch controller listed in their catalog.

Hi Matt-

I did see that Atlas had a nice CTC style switch controller but they recalled it about 6 months after they released it because it was burning switch machines up. To my knowledge, they never re-released them. Too bad they just gave up.

I was looking at the DZ-1002 by Z-Stuff which is a standalone controller. Anyone have experience hooking those up to Atlas switch machines?

Google "spdt center off momentary mini toggle switch"

Here is one on Amazon 10 switches for $10

I am not sure that the DZ-1002 will work with Atlas coil switch motors.  Z-stuff switch motors that work with the DZ-1002 are not momentary and there is a circuit board inside to control the LEDs.   I believe the DZ-1002 supplies continuous current.  Please verify this with other forum members.
