Are "Lion Chief" locomotives able to be run both conventionally and by the remote? I know "Lion Chief Plus" locomotives can be controlled either way but I'm not familiar with "Lion Chief." I'm specifically looking at the Docksider set in the 2015 Christmas Catalog, and it only says "Lion Chief."

With the soon to be available LionChief universal remote, there is little need to have Lion Chief Plus unless you resolutely hate to use a remote.  You can combine conventional running locos and Lion Chief quite easily on a layout/Christmas tree display, controlling each independently, the conventional loco with the transformer and the Lion Chief with its remote.  Of course, when you cut power down to nothing, both stop .  But that's true of any combination.

Why would you say that?  LC+ has additional features that LC doesn't.  So there are other reasons to buy a LC+ over a LC that the multi unit remote doesn't solve.  G

True, the most valuable being cruise or speed control - will allow users to run trains at any constant speed you set irregardless of inclines.

Points taken.  What I meant was that given the ability to combine Lion Chief (or Lion Chief Plus) in command mode with conventional locos, there is little advantage to Lion Chief Plus over Lion Chief when combining conventional and command modes. And the universal remote means you can easily control several Lion Chief or Lion Chief Plus locos simultaneously with conventional locos,  somewhat more conveniently than up until now. Sorry for being potentially misleading.  My point here was rather that Lion Chief and Lion Chief Plus are equally compatible with conventional operation when used in command mode.
