Since the disassembly of the Proto-2 Brute is a BEAR of a job, would it be possible to plug the BCR-2 (with a modified plug as used on the MTH charging adapter) directly into the Brute's charging port and LEAVE the dead battery in place?

NOTE: there is room to externally mount the BCR-2 between the center pair of dummy drive wheels on the dummy side-frame with mounting tape, where it would easily plug into the charging port, also located there.

THANKS in advance!

Art,

That question would be better answered by Marty, George one off the others who repair engines as a real job., However, I flat-out would't leave an extra battery, dead or not, plugged into a PS2 board under any circumstances.

I have to agree with Barry as a shorted out battery could damage the charging unit or take out the PS2 board.

Do NOT leave a dead battery in the charging circuit and attach a BCR2 to the charging port.

I had a total of three shorted BCR2's out of a total of 9 purchased since October at York.

One was used to replace a battery in a Premier /dash9.  Upon start up, with the BCR2 installed, the unit immediately had garbled sounds then went dead.  It shorted both PS2 boards thru the charging circuit.

I tested the two remaining BCR2's I had that were not installed and found they were shorted.  Called Wayne at J&W and sent them back.  He replaced them.  This was probably an isolated occurrence.

What did I learn from this?  Test the BCR or BCR2 prior to installation.  Take an O-meter and connect it to the two pins on the BCR2 molex connector - if it reads infinity, the BCR2 is good.  If it reads 0 ohms - it is shorted.

Better and cheaper to be safe than sorry.
