Hi,

It has been more than 4 years since I ran my trains.  I have cleaned / lubed  everything. (Track, engines, switches etc.)  I charged the engines using the MTH charger for 12 hours.  My problem is that I am getting intermittent results when trying to run the engines. They all start up and respond to commands like PFS, coupler, etc from the handheld. I am assuming that this means the DCS signal is adequate on the track. More often that not they fail to move.  I tried to search for this problem but did not find anything useful

Thanks

Jim

Most likely a few things. 4 yrs is a long time. Batteries could be the main culprit. Especially if they are the early 5v boards. If they have the white batteries you need to replace them. Next check your track connections as you could also have a few dead spots and clean the track. A once over with a scratch pad wont hurt. run them as the issues will work themselves out.

Thanks Guys.  4 Years is a long time.  It is probably is longer than that for somewhat consistent running time.  I do hear the engines take some time to gracefully shutdown after power has been removed from the track.  As far as the track connections goes...

I was assuming that if I was able to send control signals successfully to an engine at a certain spot on the track that the command wouldn't matter.  In other words, send a go forward 10 s mph should be no different from open front knuckle. The open knuckle seems to always work.
