Re: Quieting the Lionel skating pond

Has anyone had any success with reducing the hum and gear noise of the Lionel skating pond? The noise is a distraction and a drawback to an otherwise excellent accessory for under the tree layouts. Perhaps remotoring it would help or replacing the gears with a different set?

I found this pic on the web of the Lemax motorized skating pond. If the Lionel is similar, I'd be surprised if anyone offered a replacement/better/quieter gear set. It seems obvious that it's NOT the motor and its rubber-band pulley that is the major source of noise.
