I don't see the quote in the message block anymore, was that just removed?  It was there a couple days ago after the new format was rolled out.

While I agree that it's overused and abused at times, there are other times where a short clip really helps with the understanding of the thread, especially if you're referring to a post that's not immediately above yours.

PS: I still don't see the share icon...

I don't see the share icon either, and the removal of the Quoting function prevents me from quoting the OP here and indicating that my answer is in a response to such.

I agree that while it is sometimes misused (especially in photo heavy posts), the removal of this feature is more detrimental as it can make it hard to connect responses to specific posts, especially in some of the more technical oriented threads where parallel troubleshooting or thought processes can be going on.

Ya, it has been removed. Rich Melvin mentioned they were considering doing so. Copy-n'-paste works.....just not as well or as clearly. I'm sure the picture repeats use bandwidth and there are several members who have complained loud&long so....

Copy and paste is not a solution as the formatting provided by quoting clearly delineates it as such. If we can't trust people to quote properly, we certainly can't trust them to copy and paste and add formatting to properly attribute it consistently... I'd much rather have the occasional misuse of quoting and not have features pulled for what I think is a vocal minority...

It's very easy to copy and paste and use other methods to delineate the quote, e.g. bmoran4:

Carl, the "quote" feature does all of that without mousing around, all you have to do is kill off the extra graphics and the like.   In addition, it also has the screen name of who you're quoting automatically.

I wonder if they can make it so it leaves the graphics behind, that would solve a major source of issues.  In the rare instance you need a graphic quoted, you can copy/paste that single graphic.

John, my first quote of MartyE was to demonstrate the features available to identify a quote; and, the minimal effort required--15 seconds, maybe.

And my main is that the old "reply with quote" required only two clicks (one for "take action" and one for "reply with quote") led to overuse by some folks.

If something is worth quoting, it ought to be worth the modest effort and thought beyond two clicks.

The “Quote with Reply” feature was turned off because people were abusing it. It really is that simple. In dozens of threads we would get complaints about people re-posting a dozen photos, only to add “Nice pictures!” at the bottom. We tried numerous times to educate members here how to just REPLY without quoting a bunch of nonsense, to no avail.

There’s no conspiracy here. It’s not being done for “legal” reasons. It was done because people abused the privilege. That’s it.

I just deleted a second post theorizing that Crowdstack did this due to COPPA guidelines and a lot of other deep, legal nonsense. Read my post two above this one.

Rich Melvin

So I just copied and pasted Rich's post. Now I have to fuss with Bold and Italics to get back to normal format be cause that is what his last line used? Good grief.

I'm guessing (and hoping) that the copy&paste method will quickly be seen as much worse than the former "reply with quote" feature.  I certainly do NOT like the share symbol's "copy link to reply" method which makes reading a post w/ a copy link reply a convoluted please refer to XYZ's post encounter that reminds me of using the almost useless, but definitely frustrating microsoft Troubleshooter feature that comes pre-loaded on our computers.  I hope OGR can further discuss w/ crowd-stack possible remedies such as what @gunrunnerjohn suggested to possibly not allow pics w/i a reply-quote or have automated downsizing of any included pics.  Please do not consider pop-up info-warning boxes when the reply w/ quote is selected.

Rich, it's obvious forum monitoring and housekeeping tasks are often tedious and sometimes usually frustrating.  However, I hope that those complaints in the dozens of threads are not coming from a consistent and relatively few (as compared to the number of active/registered users).  I agree the "Nice pictures!" end reply add-on to a picture laden quote is not efficient and/or you got to be kidding me frustrating - but not hard to quickly scroll past unless... you still have AOL dial-up.  We wouldn't be aware of any moderator direct off-forum communications to the topic that might occur and aside from a few instances of either member or OGR posted comments to the effect "when quoting, you don't have to include all the pics" I'm not familiar or don't recall a forum reply w/ quote education program.

Countless times over the past near 20 yrs of this OGRR Magazine Forum members have been reminded by you and the other moderators that we must show patience and grace to those members that might be new or less informed when they might ask an often asked & answered question or not attempt a successful forum search.  I hope this issue is one of those times that require more patience and grace by OGR and those complainers.

Rich, I hope you will stick to your guns and brush aside the unsubstantiated claim that the problem with misuse of the reply with quote feature can be fixed by forum education.  Instead, enjoy the absence of those abuses we've enjoyed these past few days without the quote feature.

I like the old quote feature, but will gladly accept the only slightly less efficient copy and paste method of quoting a forum member if I am spared the misuse of the quote feature.  If a quote from a post is truly necessary for a reply, surely it is worth the modest few seconds necessary to insert it if we eliminate the abuses that are NOT occasional or infrequent but, rather, hourly and daily occurrences of the past.
