Are they still available? How did you all order them - Directly from Macy's or Lionel? Thanks

These are/were available directly through Macy's.  You can call a store, or visit a store.  Just be sure to have the full Macy's SKU handy, 'cause the customer service rep will need to order this for you (unless you happen to visit one of the few stores carrying them).

Not sure of current availability.  I posed the question a couple of weeks ago, but nobody has answered (yet).  So let us know what you find.  Best of luck.

Do you have the SKU?

From my earlier post... here's the appropriate excerpt...

"... The Lionel SKU is 6-83644, but you need the full Macy's SKU in order for the customer service employee to locate the car in THEIR inventory system.  The Macy's SKU is 023922836441, and it will show up as Lionel L.L.C. Custom Macy's Train Car. ..."

I would get the car, but the red showing on the tops of the surfaces looks really bad to me. Not when I have post war cars with better paint jobs with a more primitive process.  Too bad, as it is a neat car though.

Did you think about taking the brown paint off of the ladders and grab irons. They would have looked better if they had done this to begin with, but, it shouldn't be too hard to do.

I was at the Herald Square store today, there are 3 boxcars left. The lady in the train department told me that was it. She was selling these cars daily. They have a real nice selection of Lionel starter sets and they were all 30% of today. I bought another boxcar and got it 40% off due to the sale and being a Macys card holder. When I got my first one from the White Plains store, my friend ordered it for me as she is a buyer at Macys. She told me that they ordered 250 plus 10% for damage/replacement.

I visited NYC this week on business, I had some free time Tuesday night and took the subway down to the Macy's 34th St Herald Square HQ store, I watch the parade every year and always say next time in New York I am going to check out that store. So I did, and I was blown away, the store takes up a whole city block, has 9 floors of retail, with a mall and restaurants, Starbucks, etc. I also liked the old wooden escalators. Came away with a nice Valentine's Day present for my wife, an umbrella (forgot to pack mine) and this mug to remind me of my visit, and it matches my boxcar.
