I have been looking for N&W fishbelly hoppers on eBay, and have found a handful, some are used, others advertised as new. One listing has pictures of the box that the car comes in, and it has two price tag stickers on it (presumably from previous in-store/hobby shops) - one said $50, another said $30. Seller is asking $70.

My first reaction is that $70 is too much. But I've started to think about the fact that these hoppers haven't been made in a long time, and that the N&W name seems especially hard to come by - maybe they are worth $70 today. So what do you think? How much would you say is a fair price for a new hopper? What about used? Am I just being a cheapskate?

*In Theory* it depends on the production run, as the MSRP of these things has run up over time. If its the most recent run, the MSRP is north of $80, so $70 is a "Street price" for that run, assuming its NIB, etc...). Check the item numbers and check when the car is from. But generally, I would say 50ish is probably right for those cars. The bits are kinda fragile even though the body is indestructible. Easy to break something just removing it from the box. And being diecast, you cant really have a ton of them unless you have an unlimited supply of traction tires.

I will look into that later, thanks.

I have three, was hoping to get a few more for a 5-6 car consist. Too much for a newer (2019-ish) Legacy steam engine?
