Wow those drives are amazing!  And pretty compact too.  What's the ratio in the gearhead, and what's the ratio of the pulleys in the tower? 

I might well contact Jay offline; his brass 4-4-0 (photo above) has lit a fire in me to do a project I've dreamed about for years!  Thanks so much to all of you for sharing photos / videos of your hard work!!

The small gear heads are 22:1.  The overall ratio depends on customer desired operating speed.  As an example I just finished 2 NJCB S-2s for two different customers.  One ended up with 23:1 and the other 21:1.  Not much difference but one offers a little better slow speed while the other offers slightly higher top speed.

The motor in the steam engine isn't a gear head.  You probably figured that out but I thought I'd mention it just to be safe.
