Refitting a Lion Chief control system into a different engine?? Any success??

I have some Lion Chief Lionel engines that have worn out from train shows with the kids running them with the Lion Chief. Gears motors etc. worn.

I was considering transplanting the control system to run 1 motor on a Williams engine? They seem to last longer would this work? Anyone tried it?

Also picked up a couple of Battery operated Lion Chief train sets cheap on clearance perhaps could swap the control into the Williams from this?

Was just going to use 1 motor on each Williams engine converting the other truck on the diesels to a dummy with additional power pickup for more reliable operation.

I have heard of several people doing the conversion, so I'm sure it's possible. One issue will be dealing with the antenna for the LC stuff, Williams doesn't have insulated handrails on steamers. Obviously, diesels will probably not be a major issue with the plastic shell.

Just about anything can be done. Why do you want to do that conversion? The only Williams conversions I have done were DCS and TMCC.

From the original post, KJ356 says he wants to make use of some Lionchief electronics he has in worn out engines and put them in some Williams engines he has. Sounds like a plan. Keep us posted on your success.

I have lots of experience with those boards. Good luck. I have never seen one of those boards that has outlived it's locomotive.
