Remote problems

Are you aware that this gadget works on IR and like a TV remote must be aimed at the lock-on when changing speed or direction?

Yes, you can run the train with any conventional AC train-transformer such as an MTH Z-500, Z-750 or any Post War Lionel transformer. 

Does the remote have fresh batteries in it ?

Try inserting the lock-on into a different section of track.

The triacs that control the track voltage on those are a frequent failure item.  My inclination is to replace those if I can't get any power out of the unit.

You have to have a direct and clear line from remote to receiver. common problem with this setup. I found out the hard way like you are experiencing.

Start by taking the numbers off the parts, since I don't have one of those open, I don't have the numbers.

Amazon has the IRFZ34N parts.

Question:  Do both of those parts have the same numbers?  That's not always the case, so we need to know what's on the back one.  From what I see through the hole it appears they are the same, but it would be nice to be sure.

Either of these seem like they wold work. You board apparently requires two.
