My two DCS remotes suddenly stopped communicating with the TIU and trains.  They no longer find any trains on the tracks. “Out of RF range” appears on their screens.  However, everything is operational using the DCS Wifi.

I also cannot get any info about the TIU (such as version #) using the remotes.

This happened suddenly while operating trains.  We are running the latest software  6.10 on both the remotes and TIU.  We have shut all power and restarted several times without any improvement.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ron

"TIU ERROR" often indicates that the TIU number in the remote is different from the actual TIU number. This would only affect remote operation and not using the DCS Application.

When you power on the TIU, note how many times the red LED blinks before coming on steady. That's the TIU's ID#.

Then, press READ on the and note what TIU isn't found. That would be the TIU number that's in the remote. If the two ID#'s are different, that's the source of your problem.h

Thanks for your response, Barry. This is where I am so far. The following applies to BOTH remotes:

Batteries have been changed.

Doing a read, tethered, we get the “ tiu 1 not found” message.

The Tiu (I only have one) blinks 3x, the remotes have been set to 3 and then  to 1, neither finds the tiu and I cannot set the tiu address from the remote because it can’t be found.

I can still run trains through Wi-Fi.

Any further thoughts?

If the TIU still blinks 3 times after you think that you set the remote to "1", you did something wrong. Do the following with the TIU powered on:

  • Count the TIIU's blinks when it powers on. I'm going to assume that it still blinks 3 times.
  • Using the remote, enter: Menu/System/TIU Setup/Add TIU, and add TIU #3 if it's not already present.
  • Using the remote, enter: Menu/System/TIU Setup/Delete TIU, and delete any other TIUs, leaving only TIU #3.
  • Using the remote, enter: Menu/System/TIU Setup/Edit TIU and edit TIU #3 to be TIU#1.

SUCCESS !!

Thank you Barry,

Your directions did the trick.  The TIU was immediately recognized and now blinks only once as it usually did at startup.

Do you have any idea what might have caused the problem?

Nothing unusual happened while the trains were running.

Thanks again,

Ron

P.S.   Your book is my bible and is my go-to for troubleshooting, but I just couldn’t get a handle on this issue.
