Removing the "smoke unit" from the Lionel 6-82629 smoking caboose

The Lionel smoke unit on this model shows through the side window.  Since I never operate caboose models with smoke units the plan is to completely remove the smoke unit and install the Lionel "non-operating" stack.

Note: Since the "non-operating" stack was NOT included with the model a request from the Lionel Parts department was made using the Lionel internet site.

The Lionel Owner's Manual does NOT describe how to dis-assemble the model. However to gain access to the smoke unit 4 screws need to be removed from the 4 corners of the underframe.  This releases the roof assembly. Next locate and remove the small connector on the circuit board which is wired to the smoke unit resistor. The smoke unit resistor attached to red and black wires can then be removed. The remaining smoke unit parts can then easily be removed. The bottom smoke unit section is glued to the floor and can be released by twisting the part. The smoke unit could be reused on another project.
