I recently purchased a 6-12700 Crane and need help getting it to operate properly.  I found a wiring diagram and parts diagram but not much else in the way of repair help.

What I have found so far:

  1. The crane will turn in one direction only.
  2. The hook will move up only.
  3. The magnet does not appear to be energized.

Do you have suggestions about how to fix these problems?  I don't want to tear it apart until I have some idea how they operate.

I would appreciate any help you can provide.

Thanks

If you hear the motor running, but it fails to rotate/lift in BOTH directions chances are the rubber drive belts are overstretched or rotted. Additionally, I would suggest removing the “concrete grease” in the gearboxes. That stuff used back then had a tendency to be more hard than provide any lubricity.

the 12700 crane uses can motors, so its pretty hard to wire it wrong, it either works or it doesn’t. The magnet issue could be a dirty contact in the controller, but it could also be a bad electronagnet (overheated at some point?)

thanks,

Mike

ADCX Rob,  Thanks for posting this diagram.  Please help educate me regarding how you found that diagram.  If it was in the Supplements, how do you search for this diagram or for any other part number?  I am still learning about the information that is in these Supplements.

Is there an index or a Search function for these Supplements?

I have a secret search engine... for searching this forum. About stuff I posted previously.

Based on the diagram that Rob posted, I disassembled the gearbox and both worm gears were coated with hardened grease.  Are there any parts inside the gearbox that would be affected by cleaners or solvents?  What do you recommend?

Thanks for the help

Everything but the belts would be safe with a solvent like WD40, but the mechanical cleaning is very important, & removing any traces of the cleaner before re-greasing(lightly, avoiding the belts as much as possible).

I cleaned the hardened grease inside the gearboxes and reassembled the gearbox and motor assembly.  I tested the motors at 12V and both motors turn but do not consistently move the gears.  Does this mean the o-ring is stretched and needs to be replaced?  Where is a good place to find the 610-2700-206 O-ring?

I also applied 12V to the magnet wiring and it will pick up small items.  How much weight should it pick up?  Does it vary with the voltage?

I need to replace the wiring to the crane.  What type wire did it originally come with?  Is it normally 4 conductor flat wire or something else?

Thanks for your help.  I think I am on my way to getting this crane to working right.
