repairing AF locomotive shell repair

J B Weld metal filled epoxy works best for me on repairs to metal engines.

Walmart has best price, also at HD, Hardware, Lowes, etc.  When you get some you will find dozens of uses for this adhesive.

Do NOT use super glue!

Super glue will not hold it, but will seal the pores such that no other glue can subsequently hold it either.

I wouldn't sell it as is. I would repair it and then sell it. Also, when you go to sell it, be sure to mention the corner been repaired. Never try to hide anything. Always be up front with everyone. This way you will have a good reputation.

Here’s the method I’d use to fix that,....see if there’s room on the backside when assembled to put a “backer” on the inside of the shell,....make the backer from a thin but sturdy piece of scrap sheetmetal, ....scuff the inside of the shell where the backer will sit, wipe clean with alcohol,  and either epoxy, or JB weld the backer in place,....do not let ooze get to where the broken piece needs to be aligned with the shell!!......let this cure completely, clamp the backer to the shell, small c clamp will handle that,....after that’s cured completely, now you’ll have a nice “shelf” to slide the broken shell section and align it back onto the fracture points ,.....test fit, then epoxy the fractured section to the backer & the shell, ....use a small paintbrush to brush away ooze where the fracture is for a seamless repair,.....allow this to cure, touch up with paint, and touch up the backer,...job done,....but do let folks know this was fixed,....😉...

I believe collector value is for an original piece rather than someone's botched attempt to fix it.  If you are going to sell it and it has collector value -- don't fix it.

A broken piece like this 21130 has lost most of it's "collector" value. Once it is repaired it is essentially a nice "runner" and would be valued as such.
