I have an MTH Premier heavyweight passenger car with a broken 6 wheel truck.  I have one on order from MTH (polite order desk BTW), but because delivery of O scale products varies on occasion, I have doubts that I will ever see one.  Has anyone replaced an MTH premier passenger truck with a different brand truck successfully?  If so, any helpful hints?

I haven't had to, as I have always purchased replacements directly from MTH, i.e. Midge in the parts dept..

If so, any helpful hints?

If this set is from around 2005-2006 the truck probably is a victim of zinc pest. MTH is aware of the problem. If you call Midge, explain the problem along with the set number they will issue you an RMA. Send them all your broken trucks and they will replace them no charge other than maybe shipping. I exchanged mine at York so shipping wasn't an issue.

You can epoxy them but they will just break somewhere else.

Thanks for the replies.  I did talk to Midge and she said it would be a while before a replacement would be available.  The pieces are crumbles of metal now so epoxy would not work.  From another forum post about 4 wheel trucks on heavyweights I thought about replacing the broken truck and the other truck with 4 wheel trucks.  I also wondered if a Lionel or K-line would do as a temp.

Remember that MTH trucks have threaded bolsters and are thus, screwed into from INSIDE the car in question. To my knowledge, no other trucks are mounted in that fashion.

MrMuffin: Because my car is in the vintage when MTH had passenger car truck issues, I would prefer to get two so I can do a one time replacement.  3 rail would be my preference so I could replace without disassembling and changing out the wheel sets, but I will make due with the 2 rail. BTW, one of the wheel axels is slightly bent causing one wheel set to wobble so I need one of those as well. Please let me know what's possible for you and many thanks for your reply.
