Who would be a good source for QUALITY standard gauge replacement diecast frames for the Lionel 384, 385, 392 and 400 locos? Would prefer pre-drilled and tapped and ready for priming and painting. Thanks!
Has anyone made these in an aluminum or brass alloy casting?
That would be MTH, Hennings or Jeff Kane at the Train Tender
THANK YOU for those references!
Still wonder whether any supplier has had these cast from another metal like aluminum, brass or even steel? The price of an other than zinc alloy would understandably be much higher if they were available. Paint adhesion would be another consideration with different metals.
I believe Vagel's frames were aluminum, but the details were kind of rough. The MTH frames are diecast and of very good quality.
Jon: Would you know if say MTH would have a drilled and tapped 384 frame in stock and the cost? THANK YOU in advance.
Yes, they have plenty of them. TP-SL00068, $120 plus shipping. I've used a few of them and they are nice frames.
Jon: THANK YOU, sir for that info! I was inquiring for another forum member.
There were frames cast for 385 and 400s in both brass/bronze and aluminum at one time. the detail was pretty poor as was the fitment. Better to use the MTH HPDC ones.
We have all of the frames, steam chests , boiler fronts, & tender shells in stock. They are MTH, completely drilled , tapped & ready for painting. We also include the motor mount rivets and draw bar screws in the price. We also have currently, all of the trailing & leading tucks in stock. Harry
