I wanted to add a little depth and contour to my layout but not having any long runs I was worried about slope, so I abandoned my original plan to have one track cross the other.  Instead, I just raised one track the height of the 2" pink foam board and ran inner loop a bit higher than outer.  I created approx. 6' of retaining wall around the curve by buying a 12"x12" piece of small block tile from Lowe's (about $16) and glueing to the curve.  I keep adding lynchen and other effects as I go along.

Ed,

I used the Nicole Super Tacky Glue, picked up from Hobby Lobby.  Since I was mounting on a curve I carefully bent each section first and fit to the pink foam curve, then removed each section and glued two sections at a time.  Held in place with scrap wood blocks and weights.

Even being very careful cutting and bending I managed to loosen some of the bricks and they fell off.  But that adds to the charm.  Easy enough to glue back or leave as holes, which can be filled with linchen.

Went to Lowes and purchased these tiles and must say they are really nice and easy to work with. They interlock precisely. Thanks for the scenery tip, Mayor Magoo.

They come in a 12 x 12 and can be scored from behind for whatever height you want. They are a little fragile and bricks do pop off but can easily be glued back on as stated by Mayor Magoo.

In this photo, I added joint compound to fill in the cracks. I secured the tile to old paneling I had up as a temporary retaining wall with 3M High Strenght spray on adhesive #90.(also available at Lowes)
