I want to upgrade my Proto1 Centepeedes to a Proto 2 3volt board. Im going with Proto 2 not 3 because I want to have the 2nd unit as a slave unit with the 2 motors and smoke. Proto 3 requires a separate upgrade for each unit.
So my question is, can i place the Proto 2 board in the front unit and still use the existing slave board in the trailing unit? Or will I have to replace the boards in both?

No, hte 2 systems are not compatible. With the old PS2 upgrade kits you could order a separate slave kit for ABA units and the Coal Turbine but im not sure you can get them any longer. You're going to have to get 2 upgrade kits and do it that way.
Thanks Matt. I've got a line on a slave board but wanted to double check before i bought it.
Besides the slave board you need the harness and connectors so the Lead and Trail unit can connect. Let alone the internal harness for the Slave unit. I am not sure now much money you will save in the long run without the slave kit. Since your doing this yourself, 2 PS-3 diesel kit is $200 each. No tether to mess with, especially with a large unit like the Centipede. 2 fully functioning engines. I would recommend the dual upgrade. G
