Always a pleasure to watch one of you videos, Carl.
Hopefully, if Lionel ever does another Legacy steam locomotive, they'll blacken the handrails and tone down the rods so the users don't have to.

The part numbers for blackened drive rods will be found to be useful by many. This does beg the question of why did not Lionel use those parts in the first place. By the way, regarding your review, the instruction manual does not mention removing the shell for normal lubrication maintenance (See page 30). A caveat might be made that removing the shell runs the risk of voiding the warranty during its period.

i assumed that by the time the smoke unit needed work it was out of warranty.
I am a Lionel repair station so I did not blow the warranty.

I would only add that if you are going to blacken the handrails, don't use anything too think. Those handrails serve as antennae for the Legacy signals.
I got two Berks and one is headed to the repair shop as it stopped receiving the TMCC/Legacy command signal. Still works fine in conventional mode.
That is one very nice looking AF layout. Beautifully done. Nice upgrades to the Berk's.
