Rich spent last Monday and Tuesday at MrMuffin'sTrains filming our layout as part of Great Layout Adventures 13 and as a final tribute to this very fun layout. In the two and a half years we have had it open to the public, we have had thousands of visitors see the trains and help run the trains. We are running the trains on this layout two more Saturdays, the 23rd and the 30th, and then it's coming down.

MrsMuffin and I are moving MrMuffin'sTrains to a building we bought in Atlanta, IN, about 20 minutes north-east of our current location. Renovation on that space has already started and we look forward to building a new layout - our sixth layout - and the third one in a public space.

Candidly, we have outgrown the current 4800 square foot facility and need more room. By moving to Atlanta we can continue to expand our operation while also providing artist studio space for a group of artists from Hamilton County's Nickel Plate Arts organization. We are building a whole community of family activities around MrMuffin'sTrains.

Our son, Jeff aka "Baklava", and his S.O. Ramona aka "Texas Toast" have also joined us here at MrMuffin'sTrains to help us with all of this.

As part if this move, we will be just a few steps away from the Nickel Plate Road tracks that are the home to the Indiana Transportation Museum's collection and operation, including the Indiana State Fair's Fair Train. I see a lot of exciting things in our future.

Our new home is a two story brick structure built in 1900 when Jim Barrett was a wee lad. That's according to Rich. It is in excellent shape and we are very pleased to have been able to acquire it.  If you've enjoyed muffins at our current place in Carmel, you might be interested to know this new building will have a complete kitchen, and I, for one, am expecting more than muffins.

We will continue our shop's operation and be open for business through the move and as we build the new layout. We are planning a grand re-opening for Saturday, September 10th. More on that soon.

Thank you, Rich, for visiting, and thanks to all of our OGR Forum friends that have and continue to support our mission of promoting the hobby.

Steve..........

I was very excited to read about the move in the weekly email that arrived on Sunday. While I am sad to see this layout go, I am excited to see what the new layout will look like. The store in Carmel really has become a tight fit, especially with all the product in stock and shipping out of the store on a weekly basis. Will be excited to come join you and Liz in September to see the new building.

Great news! That move puts you 30 minutes closer to me...will plan to visit Atlanta when you get up and running. Found it kind of humorous that there are N. Railroad, S. Railroad and W. Railroad Streets in Atlanta...all parallel to each other. I do have a question on a serious note for you...did you really buy the building for the trains or because it was advertising "Banquet Hall"? Just sayin...

For those of you that have never visited and can, I highly recommend making the trip to see this fantastic layout before the tear down.  It is an amazing layout and has provided great ideas and inspiration in working on my own.  I hate to see the new one move further away from where I live, but it will be worth the trip from the sounds of it.  To all the Muffins: best of luck in your move!

Steve,Congratulations!  The new building looks and sounds like it will be great!  I won't make it out to see the old layout, but I will plan to make a trip to Atlanta to see you in the next few.

Dave is so right, the building showed right up in Google.  I see Google maps takes me on a northerly route from Butler, Pa to Atlanta via US 30 for a good ways, instead of I-70 to get to Indy.  My family travelled Rt 30 once about 50 years ago to visit cousins when they lived in Celina, O.   I do have distant relatives in the northern suburbs of Indy who came back home (so to speak) to visit once, so I should return the favor.  If you run into any Boyces out there, they are probably related to me.

Rich, I am looking forward to Video 13.  The lineup is getting better and better!!

Maybe mth or Atlas O will come up with a kit on this building.

Your soon to be new location looks almost like one of our Ameri-towne buildings!!

The above two quotes total to a suggestion.  Just as MTH makes runs of cars for particular hobby shops, OGR could make a run of that building with The Muffin symbol on the front.

All the best, Muff

I remember Rich's first film and his new camera. Any one else see it or remember the title? BFI-Q-111226-624x430Don

Nice find Don! The firearm displayed looks mighty big for "Rabbit Season" so I'm thinking it was the other guy, he was Possum hunting or "Shooting for some food" IIRC and struck crude? Should have bought that garage sale encyclopedia set. Just can't recall the title.

An OGR kit bash or Andre could whip up a kit, either case "Muffin's Place" would look neat.

Don

If I recall, my first video was entitled "Muffins with Melvin" or something like that.
I sure wish I still had that old camera. Made a great lunch box.

Who's this Rich Melvin guy anyway?  I think the guy has twelve different jobs.  Nobody can be that smart and that cool.  It's unnatural.

Keep up the great work.  I'm a big fan,        WK

William, I am a legend in my own mind. (Think about that...read it twice.)
Why...my autograph and a couple of bucks will get you a cup of coffee anywhere.

Steve, I'm a little late to the party here (been flying most of the day today) and I have to thank you for the hospitality! I had a great time shooting the layout with you. The current layout will now be immortalized in video. When the new layout in the new store is done, I may have to pay you another visit.

As others have pointed out, your new building looks just like one of our Ameri-Towne buildings. Maybe OGR should move its' World Headquarters and Raw Nerve Center  there?
