Just a point of clarification about the RMT ore car stirrups: I could find no prototype photo to show they are backwards. All the ore cars I found had straight stirrups, with no angle.

But, when angled stirrups are used on other kinds of freight cars, the non perpendicular piece is usually toward the center, not the outside.

However, from what I can tell, RMT, or the toolmaker, based its design on the 1970s Atlas O and N gauge models. I can compare more closely when the RMT models arrive. Here’s a photo of a recent N scale version in Atlas’ Trainman line.
