Looking foward to them but. Have not heard anything.

I was talking to Walter the other day, he mentioned the ore cars, but I don't have a specific shipping date.  I think part of the uncertainty is the shipping issues from China.

I saw a prototype of a couple of the woodchip cars, they're going to be a pretty unique car, well worth the wait.

UPDATE: JULY 23, 2022

gunrunnerjohn, PRR Mark, Craftech... Final test shot of ore cars has been recently approved by RMT to factory. Tooling is all brand new and made exclusively by RMT and is a true scale size for 3-rail O-gauge.

Production has already begun.

But, Walter, do you have an estimated date about when these will be available? I preordered from my local hobby shop months ago under the impression they would be available by now. Any reasonable estimate is fine.

Awesome !  With the new tooling and some of the great ideas dealers had for custom runs I have something to look forward to !

I have several older RMT ore cars, and from the pictures, the tooling here looks identical to them.

Well, they're bound to be similar, I also have lots of the old stock RMT ore cars, so when new ones show up, I'll compare them.

Me too. I have a bunch on order from Henning’s!

The sample that is pictured does seem to have Bettendorf trucks, so thats a new!

Does starting production on the ore cars indicate that production of the single dome tank cars is complete and are awaiting shipping?

How do they compare in size to the K-Line and MTH cars? Are they going to be available in western road names?

Good question.

The new tooling mentioned is claimed to be a “scale size”. I never new the old ones weren’t scale.

I have older RMT, MTH RailKing, MTH Premier, and Lionel ore cars. They’re all “about the same size”.

The MTH ones are of a different prototype which is ever so slightly larger.

P.S. Ore cars are small compared to like, 100 ton cylindrical hoppers, or 60’ Berwick Hi-Cubes, even in the real world.

Most ore weighs a lot more than other cargo like coal and grain.  That's why a 70 ton ore car is so much smaller than a 70 ton coal car.

The old RMT ore cars were scale sized too.  The new ones are all new tooling so we'll just have to wait and see how they look when they arrive.

I’m waiting, patiently. Mostly. I got several of the Bethlehem Steel ones. A few Johnstown plant, and some from Sparrow’s Point, and other mills.

I did the same thing. I ordered four different Bethlehem units to go with my Bethlehem engine.

DMASSO... Actually there are 5 different BETHLEHEM STEEL location ore cars...you forgot to mention the Lackawanna, NY plant location with the GREEN BS logo...truly unique and prototypical logo too!

I have the K-Line cars and the old Atlas cars that I converted to three rail and they look to be the same tooling. The RailKing cars I have are very close to the K-Lines and Atlas cars in size. I have a couple of Lionels that look identical to the KL/ATL cars but are noticeably smaller. I don't have any Premier cars because they weren't released in UP and I can't tell the difference between them and the RK cars in the pictures, so I don't know what makes the premier and cost more.

The true O scale ORE cars were K-LINE which became the RMT brand.

Unlike the all the other compressed non-scale toys like Lionel and RailKing, these are scale containing stirrup steps. Like the former cars, the new RMT’s will be true scale O as well with a different design.

As the steel industry left the U.S. old ore cars were turned into sand cars in later years by a few railroads.

Hope to buy a few NY&A ones in August!

It's September now.

Any idea when these will be delivered?  It's been months.

@RMT - Ready Made Trains I don’t think we need an exact shipping date. But a decent estimate would be nice. By late October? By November? Early next year?

Since the July post said production had begun, it seems like you’d have some idea two months later.

RMT ore cars are currently in production. When there are photos and updates, they will be posted to OGR Forum and RMT website.

Doing new tooling and design elements 'from scratch' takes time to 'do it right'. This has always been RMT method.

I spoke to Walter at Kutztown last year, and I asked him if the loads from the Atlas/K Line/ RMT cars would fit the new ore cars. I even had a load with me, but he said they would fit. I guess time will tell.

RMT 'new' ore cars will have removeable ore loads that could be interchangeable with the original RMT ore cars from early 2000's era. However, please note and UNDERSTAND, the new RMT ore cars are from entirely new molds made in 2022 and completely owned tooling by RMT.

Great looking cars. When will they be actually available?

Walter. Have the truck issues been resolved. I hope these ore cars trucks fit gargraves tracking. I had issues with the tank cars.

Waiting for final samples to approve. Working on trucks too.

I believe  Walter indicated that the truck issue been taken care of. New tooling. I asked about it on another forum. I believe it was Pat's Trains announcement on the new RMT ORE cars. Walter said Bill just order so I did order 8 cars. I'll take Walter's word on it. Go there and read up on it.

Should have them by 2024

I was informed the trucks have been checked and tested. Just wish the stirrup steps faced the correct way. RMT, K-Line were always backwards.

They're in my will.

I saw your note on that other thread. Yeah, just further proof that toy train manufacturers too often don’t go to the source (the actual 1:1 prototype) to design and produce their models but rely on some other sample, sometimes another manufacturer’s flawed design.

Sometimes, scale model makers have done the same, though seldom in today’s more precision-minded market.
