I was inspired by Basil's foam bluff on another thread but did not want to hijack his thread, so I started this one to show how I went from foam block scraps to this mountain tunnel.

IMG_20160223_162254324IMG_20160223_162336862After hot gluing all the pieces in, the carving started with only these tools.

IMG_20160223_172553514I used the iron first to make my large marks and carvings.  Then the hobby knife to scratch, slice an pick.  A dull blade works best ( a good reason to save dull blades).  Lastly rub hard with a metal bristle brush.IMG_20160223_172609012

IMG_20160223_172619320I added some foam pieces for more depth then painted all a medium/dark grey.  I also filled some obvious foam lines with a plaster mix.

IMG_20160226_184308433IMG_20160226_184256478Now it's time to dry brush some white, tan, brown and light grey.  The messyer the better.  Then I made this nasty very watery brown paint mix and drizzled it in many places and let it run it's natural course.  Use a drop cloth.  We added some greanery and this is what we have so far.  A log cabin will go on top.

Have fun!  Ron
