Agreed. Or at least they could offer a converter program separately.

I am in a similar situation.  I have a full version 3.  I have an upgrade to version 4 that looks for a version 3 installed.  Version 3 won't install  with windows 7.  Their answer was to buy the version 3 to 5 upgrade.  My problem is I don't desire to ugrade version 5.  The cost difference is minimal but it is the point of having to upgrade to version 5 that gets my goat.

Agree, RR track should make available an upgrade that works even at a lesser cost or free but that won't happen. Or a compatible viewer, v4 owners could view v5, view only.

Jim, you've probably already tried this.  Doesn't Windows 7 have something named compatibility or whatever so you can run older software versions?

I see they show on rr track web site it now is compatible with windows 7.

I'll stick with xp just my preference that's all, let us know if it does work as I tried it  in 2010 with ultimate.

Why can't software writers think about backwards compatiability issues and provide workarounds/converters/laying on of hands/ prayers etc so it works with older files?

Yep. RR-track 5 reads/edits/prints the earlier files just fine, but once you save it, it can't be read by version 4. Hopefully we'll see an export option soon.

My simple solution to this mess: use both. I've got version 4 and version 5 on my win 7 desktop. As long as the file is identified by version, it's all good. I agree that the compatibility issue MUST be fixed!!
