Hello I’m having a problem with my MTH proto sound 1 subway about 5 years ago I put a BCR in it and it’s been fine ever since however yesterday when I tried running once I put it forward the train immediately shorts out and completely shuts down while the power is still on not sure what the issue is or how to fix it

First step would be to make sure there is nothing preventing the motors from freely running. It sounds like once you try to move you're consuming excessive power. Another thing to check is any loose wiring. In order to look at this stuff, the shell will likely have to come off.
It would be my guess that a loose/disconnected wire is shorting, I have seen this issue, a wire looks connected but it is not, slight train movement makes for an intermittent connection.
I'd remove the shell and touch every connection looking for this issue. Don't forget to look at the truck connections too.
So I finally got around to taking the shell off and all the wires looked and felt properly connected I guess when this pandemic ends I’ll try and take to someone who does repairs thank you for your help
