Just got through taping a train show that is aired on the rural TV station, you knwo the one that the farmers watch, that was airing a show if the Lehigh Valley in the '70s. Well all the Alcos and what I thought were u23bs. I was amazedat the poor quailty of the rails out of Allentown as being bowed dipping between joints. The engine and cars would drop into these poor rails and I was wondering what could hold them back form derailing. Just amazing that they would run on such poor rails. Also interesting was the guys would come to the trains with rolled up messages on a Y stick to reach the fireman who would grab it as the train ran by. Have we come a far way. I guess I could hand lay track better than those rails looked and be so prototypical.
