I ordered the Ferdinand Magellan Presidential rail can and was worried about it being produced.  I wrote Ryan Kunkle of Lionel and asked.  He answered back as follows.

No, these are on order and should be arriving this year.  The New Haven and Great Northern cars have not yet been ordered.  Thank you, Ryan

If you remember that car was with the group of Pullman cars.  This probably means there was enough orders for the Pullmans to be made.

I actually asked Ryan Kunkle about the speakers.  He told me no speakers.  Why - because before Reagan used the car there weren't any speakers.  I checked photos and that is correct.  He said there would be modifications in the car to make it as accurate as possible, but they did not do the artwork for the catalog as they didn't know exactly what the modifications were.

I am excited to get it.

There would have to be quite a few modifications to make it accurate.  The roof is an arch roof vs clerestory, windows are in different locations on the Lionel observation, to say nothing of the kitchen door.

And speakers were used before Regan.  Here's a picture of President Truman on the car with speakers.

There's enough photo's of the Ferd on the web to determine the changes needed.   In other words: It's remove trucks, replace carbody.

And before I hear the discordant  "You Scale Guys..."  I considered ordering the Ferd and a pair of AM scale trucks for conversion, but have had more important things to deal with this past year.

I dunno...  Every photo I Google shows the Ferd with a black roof.

Frankly, I wasn't expecting Lionel to make any significant changes to the basic observation for the Ferd. However, without significant changes to the carbody, the statement of "As accurate as possible" is somewhat hollow.

I found it interesting that they chose the Ferdinand Magellan name for the car.  In actuality, they could produce the car as is and it wouldn't bother me.

Although, a set of removable speakers (possibly held on magnetically) could have been a nice addition.

BTW: Here's a photo of the Ferd, FDR and speakers...
