Hi Rich,

      Very nice photos. How many AF GP-7's are lashed together? I can see the first two are the #377, #378. What comes after that. You have a nice Backdrop of buildings there. What is your layout size? I look at your trains and wish I could do the same with mine but right now I am in the planing stages with mixed emotions every time i make a move I find something I don't like and have to change it.

Don,

Change is part of the process. You can visualize as much as possible and it will change in planning and even during construction. Be prepared. That's what makes it challenging and fun.

The 377 is on a Lionel AF Conrail chassis followed by dummies 375, 374 and another 375.  Layout size is a J shape, the long run is 35' X 6'. Bottom portion is 12' not including the 6' from the long run and is 10" deep. Small part of the J is 10' X 6' wide.

     Thanks for responding. I enjoyed your responses and I am factoring them into my reorganization of my layout. I have been planing ever since 2005. I purchased a CAD program 3rd Plan-it and began drawing my room  above my garage. Then I plotted my sketches of portions of the track plan to scale and came up with a three level operation that  incorporated a double track mainline from reverse loop to reverse loop. at the high point I reassembled a boys club railroad which I have had from 2000 which the layout circles at the highest level. The Boys Railroad Club portion is what I presently operate my trains on temperately while I work out the shortfalls of my major layout.

     My major problem is that my three level layout looks like it is all mountain terrain with no passing sidings, yards or small towns along its vast length. I am trying to also incorporate staging tracks to build extra trains to operate on the layout, passing sidings and areas for small towns with sidings for storing cars. Also at least one Yard for servicing engines and train cars both freight and passenger and a turntable with round house. I have yet attempted to iron out any of the those bugs new major part of the Layout.

     My room is an attic above my garage. Size is 16' X 24' + 2' X 4' + 8' X 16' the total Length = 36' X 16' and a 3' knee wall height. The center would be 7' 6" height. The base level is 14' above the floor, The middle level will be 22" high and the highest level is 30" high.

     One day I hope to have it operating complete but if I have room to change my mind lately I start over. Thanks for you encouraging words and I agree with everything you said but this layout of mine must be the best operational layout of my visions or I cannot be happy with it.
