Here's a bit of history.

In 1945 the Katy repainted a 4-4-0 in the colors of an 1890's engine of a similar type that handled "The Katy Flyer" back in the day. They numbered the engine 200.

In 1952 the MKT railroad donated  4-4-0 #200 steam engine and five truss rod cars (boxcar, coach, flat, gon, caboose) to the St. Louis, MO Museum of transport. The cars were painted a sort-of reddish color. The Museum still has the engine and cars to this day however the engine was repainted back to it's steam engine black and renumbered 311.

Being an MKT fan after finding all this out I thought I'd try my hand at recreating this donated train in S scale to the best of my abilities (limited as they are). I knew I'd have to make lots of compromises. I started with an AF Franklin 4-4-0 off Ebay.

I then used  five On30 Bachmann Spectrum cars (to get that truss rod underframe old-timey look) and replaced the HO trucks with S scale trucks .

Here's what I came up with:

Katy Flyer #200Katy 4-4-0 #200Katy 200 tenderBoxcar #556Katy Fkyer Coach #15Katy Flyer Hi-side gon #316Katy Flyer lo-side gon #529Katy Flyer Caboose #1000Katy Flyer #200 close upMr. G.Gilo sneaks a kiss

I haven't been able to secure proper decals for the cars so for now I used self-adhesive label paper printed on my computer. The last caboose shot above shows Mr. G. Geelo sneaking a kiss from an unsuspecting female.

Now I'll see if I can attach a  video. Enjoy!
