Sally the Yard Dog f/k/a Sally the Yard Goat

What I'm about to say is too funny for words, downright hilarious.

Early mornings with my wife still asleep and while I'm sipping a mug of coffee, I often have very enjoyable model railroad activity and creativity.

After running a couple of other trains, I decided to say Good Morning to my Sally the Yard Goat and take her for a run on a couple of sidings on my layout.

This morning Sally did nothing to torment me for a change: no slightly unseated tether plug on curves causing any racing and/or stalling.

Mind you, when these problems happen, I no longer let it ruin my day. Instead, I now think of these problem as endearing and Sally crying out for some tender loving care. LOL.

Now, for the hilarious part. One of Sally's idiosyncrasies is for her tender to list to one side running through a couple (not all) of my 022 switches when taking the curve, without derailing.

This listing to one side reminded me of my deceased beloved Sally, an adorable German Shepherd and Beagle mix, who was a wonderful, playful family pet (she was an alpha female and pure pack animal), and who would bark at, and try to bite, any creature who was not a member of the pack.

When my Sally the Yard Goat listed to one side, that reminded me of my first Sally lifting her hind leg when taking a "p_____" on a tree or fire hydrant. LMAO.

So, now let it be known, throughout the on- line model railroading world, that I am changing the name of my Sally the Yard Goat to Sally the Yard Dog. LMAO.

You cannot program your own sounds into Lionel engines currently.  Whether that changes with Base3 is yet to be seen.  I won't say it's not going to be possible but I doubt it.

An option may be to purchase a battery-powered, miniature recordable sound chip and record your own announcement. They come with a small pushbutton for playback. The recorder can be mounted under the layout (velcro, hot glue, etc.) and the button can be mounted on the side of the layout and pushed whenever you choose for playback.

I have several placed around my layout near factories, farms, etc. and I record sounds for that particular spot on the recorder - like garage station sounds for my garage and mount the pushbutton nearby. When people come over to view the layout, I can point out that particular accessory, like a farm, and push the button to play animal sounds, garage sounds, factory sounds, etc.

They are available on the big A. "E-Z" sounds is one such company.

I highly recommend Gunrunnerjohn’s Universal MP3. I recorded 4 different Station announcements and have them each triggered by a port on an SC2. It works perfectly every time.

Gee, what happened to the news agent's face?

A while ago I did let Sally go for a run deep into a main line on my layout as shown below, which was successful.
