Hi all,

I'm having an odd issue that I wonder if anyone else has encountered. (I searched the forum and googled it and didn't find anything.)

I use an SC-2 on my small layout, which is controlled by a Cab-1L/Base-1L and Legacy Powermaster. The SC-2 controls 6 DZ-1000 switch motors on Gargraves switches. It runs 5 of them perfectly.

On SW 1, however, it continues to send power to one side of the switch motor even after it's been flipped the other way. At first I thought it was the switch motor, but I tried a different DZ-1000 and the same thing still happened. I also checked all wiring between the switch and the SC-2, and it's fine.

What SEEMS to be happening is that one side of the SC-2 relay is not disengaging completely. A little bit of power - not enough to smoothly throw the switch, but enough for it to buzz and slowly move the motor - is flowing through the SC-2 when it's in one position, even though no button on the Cab-1L is being pressed.

Has anyone had a problem like this? FYI I have the SC-2 mounted vertically. Should it be mounted flat? Again, the other 5 switches all work great.

Thanks for your help,

Alan P

This is a good question, I would say you possibly have a defective SC-2, however I’m not an authority on electronic wiring. Have you considered re-programming the SC-2? My layout is all Legacy/TMCC/ASC’s, BPC’s, controlled, all the switches, blocks, operate by Cab 1, Cab 2. I’m getting ready to add an SC-2 to operate accessories and this is why I’m interested in the answers you get to your issues.

One thing I added to my switch wiring with the DZ1000 was a push button control placed near the switch, thus being able to control the switch by hand, or with the Cab 1/ or 2. So, with 40 Turnouts, not many issues yet, over 18 years. Now, I do have 1 issue, my last turnout when I push the button near the switch, it doesn’t work but causes 2 of my ASC’s to buzz. The push buttons do not flip the switch. That’s my only issue. The Cab 1 & 2 flip the switch.  Good luck and hopefully some of the seasoned electronic experts will chime in, Lionel Customer service would be a good source for your solution. Great Question. Happy Railroading

Hi gang,

Just wanted to report back. Cutting the printed conductor "trace" to the SW 1 relay solved the problem, as advertised. I'm attaching the pic of the cut that had been posted on the other thread, in case anyone searches here for an answer.

Rod, that makes sense but I only run conventional with the Legacy Powermaster. I actually prefer MTH engines and also run some old postwar stuff sometimes. Without constant voltage to the track, I prefer using the separate supply.
