scale people and vehicles

You can print "generic" vehicles without fear, but I don't know if you print an accurate rendition of a Ford or Chevy that you could legally sell it.  Obviously, you can print them for your own use.

People are another matter, there is no "copyright" on people that I know of, so printing those would be fair game I expect.

3D printing for something the size of a 1:50 car or truck will take considerable time with most printers, probably several hours.  Printing people would obviously be quicker.

The time/cost of 3D printing isn't the only issue, it's the hand painting that runs up the cost and time as well.

I’m  in the final throes of updating my passenger cars. People are not an issue but chairs/benches that go inside of passenger cars are. I’m not much of a woodworker so I’m looking for ready made seats. I looked at many scale figure places that were recommended on OGR but the selection of seating is limited. I do have a nice Dremel with bits, so I may have to go out of my comfort zone.

I would think the seats in passenger cars would be a good candidate for 3D printing.  I have the Weaver scale Reading Crusader set, and I have five 21" cars with no interiors.  My thinking is to 3D print seats and then glue them to the floor.

One thing that I noticed is that seated 1/48 people do not fit //48 seats when trying for two in a double seat such as in a trolley so I will probably use 1/64 people.

Yep, unfortunately my 3d printer is on the fritz currently. I need to double down on my repair efforts.

You’re right. Based on some posts from @gunrunnerjohn, I bought some MTH complete interior passenger car shells and modified them to fit. Their seated people were definitely a lot smaller than the O scale people I bought.

WellI just purchased 200 seated figures for my passenger fleet of  Milw Rd passenger cars for $57.00  painted, (sort of), but seats have been more or an issue , but they are out there!  As the cars range from 1890's wood to 1920's steel heavy weights, and 1934 to 1940 light weight streamline cars, finding the proper styles, but again they are out there.  My Weaver 1935 set "The morning Hiawatha " came with that garbage tan injected plastic interior , like the "Others" use , and has been replaced.  The only problem I have had is finding Kitchens and tables for the dinning cars, oh and window shades and curtains.

Yes they are pretty easy to do, this is one I made for a boat but could be redone to any size or style. If interested I could add to the Repository for member's use.

Good luck finding S-scale figures for any reasonable price!   They are the right size for many passenger cars, they're just unobtainium right now.

I'm going to need a bunch of specific seats for my Reading Crusader cars, and I'll need tables for the dining car as well.  It seems the only realistic way to get them is to have them 3D printed.

Tables are also elusive, but seem to be somewhat obtainable although the size may not be right for what I need.  So yes, 3d printing is the best option.  Does any type of paint work on PLA filament?

I'm a bit hamstrung right now.  Some work in the green area behind my house cut my fiber, so I'm using my iPhone for a hot spot.  It make me appreciate gigabit fiber.

well the other option ,  would be to make Or Print a set of masters. mold them with a silicone mold and cast them in resign

I added the seat and insert to the Repository on the 3D print forum under Details/Boats/Boat Seat. You could download and print the STL file as is or the STP file and modify it to your need.
