I have two Lionel scale steam engines that I recently purchased that included "optional" scale pilot wheels. Why would anyone want the installed "non-scale" wheels? Lionel manuals make no reference as to why one would want either set. I'm guessing in advance the scale wheels might present a tracking problem, either going thru certain brands of turnouts or running on certain track styles.
Would someone enlighten me on this, so I don't go thru a wheel set change only to be unpleasantly surprised?
