Charlie,

Sometimes it is easy to mix up these Pennsy steamers,at least for me.  I thought that the N1 was made by 3rd Rail.  I'll have to check it out when I return home tonight.  I'd go for which ever one that was not produced,N1 or N2.

I ordered the K5 also--what are the chances that Lionel would do one?

Slim to none probably.

If you want a USRA heavy Mikado, and are a serious buyer, email Weaver. They are aware that many of us want a heavy and if they get e-mail on it, that will help them gauge the market.

Jc642. Sunset 3rd Rail has PRR L1s' coming this spring.  Pilot model expected to be in US  next month and at York.  It will be the first O scale two or three rail L1s built to scale dimensions -  prior L1s models (MG, USH, Weaver, Williams, MTH) had noticeable errors either on boiler size or tender dimensions - the latter due to a bad drawing in Kalmbach's  Loco Cyclopedia.

Tried this suggestion with another supplier of quality, unique steamers, so why not?.....

 

 

It's the ATSF class 1800 Prairie 2-6-2, a nice sized engine for many basement empires, and a high-on-the-list O3R wish among Santa Fe-O-philes. 

 

Enough of the 4-8-8-4, 2-8-8-8-2, 2-10-10-2, 4-6-6-4, 2-8-8-4, "Ka-ching Bling" thing.  Let's get basement-sized, small-radius, short-train practical for a change.  4-6-2's?   2-6-2's?    2-8-0's?   

 

And, if there isn't room to stuff the stuff...you know, smoke coming out of the whistle, cylinder cocks, leaky pipe joints and fireman's butt, a Bad Boy woofer and a Tip-Top tweeter snuggling up to a layer-cake of electronics and a Lipo battery...so be it.

NYC Niagara With Steam Whistle Effect, Stem Chest Effect, Steam Blow Down Effect, and Legacy!

 

I have the CCII Niagara, My friend and forum member Alex Malliae upgraded it to 4 Chuffs and upgraded the smoke unit. Just what the engine needed. He did a great job on it. But I would still like one with the above mentioned upgrades.

My apologies to Weaver-I forgot about them; I don't own any of their recent offerings. However, Weaver does brass of "obscure" locos, the beautiful Lackawanna Pocono being one.

How do the Weaver locos perform compared to 3rd Rail?

I've been quite happy with my Weaver brass locomotives. There have been problems, but Weaver is very, very forthcoming in fixing things. Their recent Milwaukee Road F6a 4-6-4 is the most detailed 0 scale 3-rail locomotive I have ever seen - equal or superior to anything I've seen out of 3rd Rail. It had a traction problem, but Weaver service was super helpful in getting it sorted out.
 
Another thing about Weaver is that owner Joe Hayter is very responsive to input from customers about what to make and to specific suggestions to improve detail, etc.
 
Sunset/3rd Rail seems to have something against the Milwaukee Road. They have made Burlington, C&NW, Great Northern, NP, and SP&S steamers, but never Milwaukee Road. It's like they drew a circle around the Milwaukee and modeled all their competitors, but not the Milwaukee Road. The Milwaukee was the biggest purchaser of the USRA Heavy Mikado, which was the railroad's standard heavy freight locomotive until they bought the S-2 Northerns from Baldwin.

Weaver did the non-streamlined 4-6-4 (which the Milwaukee called a Baltic) a few years ago. It is an absolutely fantastic model, the jewel of my collection. I think JD's still has a couple in stock at a very nice price. It has an issue with traction but that's pretty easily fixable. 
 
If you are talking about the streamlined Hiawatha Pacifics, Weaver was interested in doing that one but was unable to locate a good scale drawing of it, which was required by their builder in Korea. Those shrouds were added at the Milwaukee Shops and to date, the documentation has not been found. It seems unlikely that this model will be built until and unless an erection drawing turns up, or some highly skilled draftsman puts in the time and effort to make a scale drawing using photos of the streamlined version and the dimensions of the unmodified Pacific.
 
K-Line made a very nice looking unstreamlined Pacific with a Hiawatha logo and a Chippewa paint job. It was based on a USRA Pacific, which the Milwaukee did not have, but it's still a good little engine. It was available with TMCC or in conventional with or without sound.
