You may be right about that. I understand that programmers deserve their pay and all. I don't expect anything for free. Its more the timing perhaps? I've been working hard on my layout and I have a lot of time invested in it. I'm now faced with either paying $30 or leaving it as is. I guess I'd be less disappointed if I would have known there was an expiration date to my freeware. You know like a 30 day free trial or something. I have even used free programs that remind you every time you open it that you only have so many days left. Then while working, you'll expect to have to pay later. I guess I feel a little baited and switched.

Ok, after reading the above article, I feel considerably less agitated now. I would want paid for my work too and if donations weren't coming in, you've got to do something. Again, I think it was more the timing. I had just come up with a couple new ideas for my project layout, and I went to open it, and couldn't without updating. Then I was excited to see what new features would be in the new version of scarm. Then to find a piece limit was well, disappointing. I'm over it now. I do appreciate all the work put into scarm, and the ability to use it for so long for free. Perhaps I took it for granted?

I know I took it for granted even though I upgraded early because I wanted the enhanced features. I was caught off guard when I found out beta versions would stop working at some point and then again by your post saying you had to upgrade. I still think it's the best program for the money, so I guess we'll see how successful it is as a commercial product.

It's a good thing I finished my layout plan a while ago.  Also means there will be no changing the plan in the future.

Sure you can change, just pay for the 1.0 release.

The problem is if I do that I'll open a can of worms.  It took me close to 3 years to get the plan I have now.  If I were to go back to the drawing board, who knows how long it'd take me to finish again.  If I really need to plan again, I'd totally pay for the app, it's worth it.  But going paid now is good as It'll keep me from changing my mind for a while, and then I might actually get around to getting track laid.

Maybe I should have done that. In that period, I've designed multiple layouts for 6 different areas of the house and garage. I have finally settled on 2 areas and they are firm. I also have designs for both, but one is not final and I keep fiddling with the plans for bench work. That will probably continue until I actually buy some wood. Our recent kitchen remodel and some medical issues have delayed progress, but it's still hot out, so I'm not in any particular hurry to spend a lot of time in the garage just yet.

Hmmm...Maybe it's good that I am still struggling with RR-Track after 5 or 6 years now?   Actually if I liked this stuff like you and some of the others here do I wouldn't mind paying for SCARM at all. I still think it's worth it, probably more than worth it. I've seen some really nice stuff posted here that you guys have drawn with SCARM. Hope he does well with the commercial version and is able to continue improving it.

Yes, it is still hot out here.  My train room is part of the house, but AC wasn't run to it when it was added on.  There is just a window unit in the far wall, but I try to not run it as we aren't out here much.  It'll get to mid to upper 80's in here.  Kinda keeps me from spending much time on the trains too.  But I need to get moving and get at least stage one done before Christmas.  My grandfather is coming from out of town, and I'd love to show off the VL BB to him.
