My wife, son and I are swapping our home with British friends for three weeks.  This is our third trip to England and my second time driving although the first was a car with automatic transmission.  I am now driving with a floor mounted shifter using my left hand!  It hasn't been pretty but I have only been honked at once so far.  I also survived the "Magic Roundabout" in Swindon at rush hour!

This is the first time I've been able to visit a preserved railway and we rode the Severn Valley Railway on Tuesday.  Below are some of the pictures I took.  It is amazing how different the railways are here from the U.S..

Enjoy!

The Severn is an excellent preserved railway, but unfortunately has no turning facilities.

There is a U Tube video showing  trains running the full length of the line in both directions.

Hope you can get to the Welsh narrow gauges John.  They are really a lot of fun. Festiniog is the best followed by West Highland, Talyllyn, and Vale of Rheidol in my opinion.

Yes they were getting ready for a World War II event this weekend.  At one of the stations Winston Churchill was walking around!

Yes I really want to ride the Festiniog in Wales but it's a four hour drive from Oxford where we're staying.  I am a two-foot gauge nut and know that the Sandy River was based on it.

In a future trip we will go to Wales and I want to stay in "The Village" at Portmerion!
