when turning on a Z4000 transformer with both handles down, all the meters read 0. As soon as the voltage is brought up on the left Handel I get a reading of 9 amps with the red light blinking and then going to a solid red,  there is nothing connected to the transformer.   The right handle works fine.

Any thoughts on what's wrong?  Does the Z4000 have a TVS in it's circuit which could cause a the short if bad?

you might have a shorted FET's in the left bank of FET's. there is nothing  you can do.  Z40000 would have  to be repaired by an MTH ASC tech. sometimes the board can be repaired otherwise the bad board would have to be replaced and if I remember correctly there $150..00 per board and your old one has to be returned for the core charge! plus labor!

What I can remember from over two years ago and this is one of sixteen Z4000's the club has, the insides were vacuumed and blown out, reseated all the boards connectors and cleaned the pots.  After doing this, problem was gone.  Really not sure what caused or resolved the problem, but after some basic maintenance, the problem disappeared.
