This post is a heads up to all the S scale fans on this forum. Jerry Poniatowski (PONIAJ) has a letter to CTT published in the July 2017 issue showing his beautiful scratch built AEM7. WOW! what a neat engine! Pulling what appears to be a set of AM Amtrak passenger cars this detailed engine should show the S gauge manufacturers what can be accomplished in "S"...with a lot of effort!  Check out the letter if you get a chance.

Guys,

Thanks for the kudos.  I sent the letter to CTT on a whim and they published it!  The letter was edited a bit, since that's their right, but it had a little more on the cars and engine.  Not all that much on how it was made though.  And Mark, the cars are indeed AM ones lettered and decaled to Amtrak.

Yes, Atlas O also made the AEM7 but the biggest help was finding a 1:64 drawing of the locomotive in a past issue of Model Railroader.  The drawings had prototype dimensions which aided immensely!   I also compiled a LOT of prototype photos.

Basically it's made of layered and shaped styrene with a brass frame and AM drive train.   I wrote up the actual construction of the model in the July/August 2003 issue of the S Gaugian
