Sorry, I am so lazy, therefore I have cheated. Yes, I admit, it is inkjet printed adhesive coating paper applied prior folding and shaping the sheet metal. The rusty skin textures have been downloaded from web photo gallery. This is a clean method for rapid modeling. The dirty alternatives would be time consuming airbrush spraying, drybrush painting, pigment powdering, etc.

Does N gauge count?

Not sure if it qualifies as extreme but this is as far as I've pushed weathering.

49  Weathering ALBUMS, 10,000 photos, might be a few professionally done on there.

I got this flat car in the mail today from fellow forumite Chris Lonero. It had a police car load when I got it. I removed the car and floor then began the new floor and starting the weathering process. Maybe I'll end up with a decent looking flat to haul my shovel on after I get the trucks and couplers finished.

There are some nice weathering jobs shown here.                                                                                                                                                       I scratch built a spare rebuilt gas turbine for my UP "Big Blow" locomotive and placed it in the service area near the roundhouse.                   A weathered Lionel Amtrak work train headed by an old Alco is parked behind it, re-lettered for the UP.                                                           TJ

CR GG1 modeled off of prototype pictures.

Former Railking D&H NE Caboose that I converted to two rail, moved the trucks outboard to the correct spacing and weathered for a just "before" Conrail look along with an Athearn 60's kit boxcar that has a late in life look as well.

maybe a bit too extreme?

Not sure if this qualifies as "extreme", but it is definitely one of the most weathered (and beat up!) cars that I've done...

Some Penn Central equipment that I made more authentic.

I had the same reaction as Frank.  The detailing on that  retaining wall is great!

I came across this picture on the internet ... don't know the author but that's the kind of extreme weathering I like.
