My train experience is in the O Gauge realm.

I have an opportunity to purchase a 10+ year old RTR set made by the subject company.  I know MTH purchased them (at least the tooling).

Did Showcase make only one type of product and thus that is what is in their RTR sets?  What I mean is best explained by example.  If I buy a RTR set in O Gauge from MTH or Lionel, the quality of what is in the box is fine, but it certainly is not the top of the line items.  And depending on the price point, it can get close to MPC quality.

Thus, I am trying to figure out if the Showcase/S-Helper RTR set would have a 'different' level of product than if you, at that time and day, were to purchase the engine or cars individually?

Thanks.

Equipment in S Helper Service sets were of the same quality as their individual stock.  There was nothing unique or lessened in quality than what could be purchased individually.

If the customer requested, SHS would also substitute cars with different roadnames from stock, install scale wheels, or at additional cost, upgrade the locomotive to DCC.

Well, I am not one to interfere and cause a fellow forum member to lose a sale.  I am not going to be upset if you decide to buy it as I have not fully made up my mind.

I told him that until I paid for it (while I analyze this to death), I did not expect him to 'hold' it.  He posted it for sale in mid to late July on the For Sale forum.

If by the time I decide I want it and you have already purchased it, that is my fault.  It is out there right now!!
